Congratulations to Sarah and David who were recently married and had their event showcased The Wedding Yentas, a guide for the Jewish bride. We were very excited to see our bridesmaids’ gowns in action – such an elegant (and fun!) group. Sarah’s bridesmaids wore one of our favorite styles from the designer B2. We’re big fans of the newlyweds’ post-reception visit to Dick’s, too! Congratulations, and thank you for letting us be part of your special day.

Tangerine Tango – Pantone’s Color of 2012

Pantone, the world-renowned authority on color has named “Tangerine Tango” the color of the year. This fun, vibrant color is more versatile than you may think, and can be used tastefully throughout the year for your wedding.

In the spring, use this color with light yellows and other pale accents such as pink, peach, and ivory.

This mango colored chiffon gown from Jim Hjelm is softened by the pale flowers surrounding it, and this cake display arranged by Christiane from Flora Nova illustrates the softer side of this color scheme, as well.

In the summer, go bold and pair this color with bright purples, fuchsia, or turquoise tones. In the first illustration, orange takes center stage on these dresses from Expressions with fuchsia accents in the bouquets.

Remember, Tangerine Tango can be a strong statement or an artful accent. In fact, sometimes it will pack more of a punch as an accent color where the viewer will be left wanting more. One of my favorite combinations is when teal/turquoise tones are accented with bright orange. This bridesmaid gown from Wtoo is shown in foliage taffeta with a tangerine accent ribbon.

In the fall and winter, which is when you may be most accustomed to seeing this color, pair Tangerine Tango with browns, greens, deep crimson, and plum tones. This bridesmaid gown from Watters & Watters is shown in a plum taffeta with a tangerine accent ribbon.

As a dress color, Tangerine Tango is rich enough that it is flattering on a variety of skin-tones. In addition, its bold nature lends itself to being well-represented in many fabrics such as chiffon, satin, taffeta, and dupioni, thus furthering the richness of the color through a variety of textures. Every designer will have a different name and slightly different version of the color, so here are the colors to look for:

The Dessy Group has aligned their swatches with the Pantone colors, so you will find it as “Tangerine Tango.”
The B2 and Belsoie lines call it “Mango Tango.”
Wtoo has the color in the dupioni fabric as “Pumpkin.”
Mori Lee refers to it as “Jalapeno.”
Bill Levkoff has their satin and chiffon available in “Persimmon.”
Jim Hjelm has their silky taffeta available in “Pumpkin” and their dupioni available in “Sunset.”

The show will be held at the Washington State Convention Center in downtown Seattle on January 7^th and 8^th. ‘Tis the Season for New Bridesmaid Dresses

Christmas came early at Moms, Maids, and More! Over the past few days, we have received boxes and boxes of new bridesmaid styles. Our UPS driver has been getting a workout! We received over 30 new styles from Bill Levkoff, the complete new line of Alfred Sung gowns, and several new pieces from After 6, Belsoie, B2, and Mori Lee. What are the trends you can look forward to? Floor length gowns are making a comeback, so the designers have stepped up their game, offering a variety of floor length styles from light and flowy to evening-gown chic. If cocktail length is your preference, have no fear, the collection of short dresses is still strong, and the designers have finally figured out that the awkward tea length just isn’t good on anyone! So, you will notice that many of the styles are (tastefully) shorter. As for necklines, there are increasingly more options besides strapless, a sign that the designers are listening to your requests.
